  What Can I Do?

There are simple things you can do to help wildlife!

When you travel, never buy products
made from animals. Remember, animal products include shells, hair and even pieces of coral reef.
Avoid products made from rare rainforest
woods like mahogany. Taking these trees
destroys habitats, which is the primary

reason for animal endangerment. It may sound funny to say, but it's worth
remembering that it takes 100 years to grow a hundred-year-old tree.
Come to the Zoo and learn more about endangered animals and why they're
endangered. Tell people about what you've learned.
Recycle aluminum cans. Rainforests are cleared to mine for the aluminum. Recycling
a can requires no new aluminum.
Recycle Your Old Cell Phones at Zoo Atlanta for Gorilla Conservation new!
Conserve energy and protect the global environment by carpooling, taking public
transportation, or riding your bike instead of taking the car whenever you can.
Create a back yard habitat. Birds that migrate from tropical forests need to rest, eat
and drink along the way. Planting native shrubs and trees provide shelter and food, a simple bird bath or a little pool can provide water. Native animals can benefit from this year round, and it's fun to watch the beautiful animals that are attracted to your yard.
If you travel to a tropical forest, make sure the money you spend is supporting local
people and local conservation efforts.
