  Field Experience Guides

Make your Field Experience educational and fun!

Field Experience Guides are provided as an added benefit to teachers for bringing your students for a Field Experience at Zoo Atlanta! Expert teachers, along with Zoo staff, created guides from the Georgia Performance Standards that are intended to help you give your students meaningful, age-appropriate, and hands-on Field Experiences that integrate into the school year. Upon making your Field Experience reservation, you will have a link to download your FREE Field Experience Guide, appropriate to your age level, to enhance your visit.

Interdisciplinary Zoo Journey Guides are available for Kindergarten through 12th grade. Students will complete individual or group activities that, age appropriately, facilitate learning about wildlife and the natural world. Activities include identifying stages in a life cycle, using graphic organizers to classify animals based on characteristics, discovering endangered and threatened animals and researching their causes, drawing animals and their habitats, studying animal behavior, and many more.
A Naturalist’s Expedition Guide provides an advanced learning opportunity for students from 6th grade and up. Students will explore the natural world, learn about biodiversity, find answers to specific questions about flora and fauna, and track their discoveries in their own Zoo Atlanta Field Journal.
For our advanced biology students, An Animal Behavior Study Guide makes an ideal school project.

You will receive links to these guides in your confirmation email after making your Self-guided Field Experience reservation. If you have difficulty opening these guides, email education@zooatlanta.org or call 404.624.WILD to request a copy by mail. Be sure to mention which grade level packet you would like.

Register online for a Zoo School Self-Guided Field Experience OR call 404.624.WILD.

Guides come complete with Georgia Performance Standards for each grade level, essential questions, and reading lists.

Guides provide activities to conduct with your students before your visit, during your visit, and after your visit to reinforce educational standards.

Rubrics are also included to help you assess your student learning with ease.
