Giant Pandas and the Asian Connection — 1 PLU

  • Open to elementary school and pre-service teachers
  • January 24, 2009, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $60 per participant
  • Additional 3-hour supervised project at the Zoo is required to receive PLU credit.

Learn about the Zoo’s new giant panda cub and the fascinating creatures of the Asian continent, and find out more about conservation efforts at home and abroad. Use curriculum from this workshop to engage your students in Asian animals and culture.

Wild about Diversity — 1 PLU

  • Open to elementary, middle school and pre-service teachers
  • February 21, 2009, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $60 per participant
  • Additional 3-hour supervised project at the Zoo is required to receive PLU credit.

Squirrels flying and snakes eating other snakes? Explore the amazing adaptations and behaviors that color the rich spectrum of global biodiversity, and take home curriculum that will help you incorporate these concepts in your classrooms.

Investigate Science Overnight — 1 PLU

  • Open to upper elementary and middle school teachers
  • March 14-15, 2009, 5:30 p.m. to 12 p.m. on March 15
  • Cost: $70 per person
  • 1 PLU received on March 15, 2009

Journey through the nighttime Zoo, delve deeper into science and animal behavior research, and find out what some animals are up to after dark! Please note: this is an overnight program. Climate-controlled indoor sleeping accommodations and breakfast will be provided.

Georgia’s Wild! — 1 PLU

  • Open to elementary school and pre-service teachers
  • April 25, 2009, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $60 per participant
  • Additional 3-hour supervised project at the Zoo is required to receive PLU credit.

Explore the wild side of Georgia. Investigate the state’s animals and ecosystems, learn about ways your students can have a positive impact on species in Georgia, and engage your students engaged in appreciating backyard wildlife.

Center for Behavioral Neuroscience - Why They Do What They Do at the Zoo — 3-5 PLUs

  • Open to middle and high school science teachers
  • Monday, June 8 to Friday, June 12, 2009
  • Cost: FREE! Workshop is funded by the Center for Behavioral Neuroscience at Georgia State University.
  • 3 PLUs received on June 12 upon successful completion of the week's course requirements. An additional 1-2 PLUs are available upon completion of a supervised 10-20 hour project.

Discover animal courting behavior, parenting and interaction. Learn how the brain influences and controls animal behavior while linking the scientific method to behavioral and neuroscience research. Use the curriculum from this workshop to engage your students in similar research techniques to make their own discoveries about animal behavior.

This workshop is open only to middle and high school science teachers. To register, please call the WILDLine Reservation Center at 404.624.WILD.

Animals Across the Curriculum — 2 PLUs

  • Open to elementary, middle school and pre-service teachers
  • June 16-18, 2009, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $75 per participant
  • 2 PLUs received on June 18, 2009

Animals aren’t just for science class anymore. Encounter ways to use wildlife and animal concepts in language arts, math and social studies. Use curriculum from this workshop to integrate animals into all of your subjects, and make your classroom one that incorporates animals across the curriculum.

Saving Species — 2 PLUs

  • Open to upper elementary and middle school teachers
  • June 23-25, 2009, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Cost: $75 per participant

Take a closer look at Zoo Atlanta’s endangered species, learn more about the challenges their counterparts face in the wild, and find out what the Zoo is doing to preserve wildlife around the world. Discover ways to teach your students about endangered species and conservation concepts.

Either way, Zoo Atlanta instructors will present hands-on activities aligned with state standards and animals you can touch.
