The members of class Aves are the world’s most numerous legged vertebrates, with around 10,000 species worldwide. All birds have wings, beaks (no teeth) and feathers, and all lay eggs. Most but not all bird species can fly, at least for short distances. Zoo Atlanta is home to more than 50 bird species, including the world’s largest bird species, the ostrich.
