Treetop Trail

Treetop Trail presented by Kaiser Permanente

The Zoo Atlanta experience will climb to new heights with the opening of an all-new aerial playground

In spring 2017, all wildlife enthusiasts who have ever admired the skills of tree-dwelling animals will have a chance to test their own skills with the opening of an all-new aerial playground: Treetop Trail presented by Kaiser Permanente. The sky trail, made possible with generous support from the Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority, will allow adventurers to traverse a two-level challenge in the Zoo’s KIDZone.

“This is another very exciting reason to look forward to spring at Zoo Atlanta,” said Raymond B. King, President, and CEO. “The Zoo is a destination for outdoor adventures for families in the home of more than 1,000 animals from around the world. Treetop Trail will add yet another dynamic of family fun to the Zoo experience, encouraging healthy, active recreation that simulates the perspective of the amazing animals that inhabit our planet’s forests.”

Whether they have the effortless agility of a tree-cruising orangutan or prefer the laid-back pace of a sloth, guests will have the opportunity to zig, zag, climb, walk, and balance at their own pace as they navigate a series of rope ladders, bridges, nets and tightrope-style foot lines. Participants will be safely secured and tethered with full-body harness and lanyard to an overhead tracking system. The experience will be themed to promote education of the lifestyles and adaptations of arboreal animals.

Initial construction is currently underway in the KIDZone, which is also home to a large playground; Zoo train; endangered species carousel; Canopy Climber and rock-climbing wall; and the seasonal Splash Fountain presented by Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority. The playground will be closed during construction of Treetop Trail. The KIDZone destinations from the gateway to the Orkin Children’s Zoo, home to Australian wildlife and the sheep, goats and pigs of the Outback Station petting zoo.

The experience will be open to Zoo visitors of all ages, but children must be 48 inches tall to participate without an adult chaperone. The course will be available as an add-on to Zoo admission.
