The Babies are Coming!
Tuesday, March 16, 2010
No one can predict the exact date of their arrivals, but one thing’s for sure: they’re on their way. Babies are expected at Zoo Atlanta, and this spring and summer are sure to be full of REAL LIVE FUN. Three animal mamas are currently on baby watch, with three more set to follow in their footsteps (or hoof prints).
Miri the Bornean orangutan
The nation’s largest zoological collection of orangutans is about to get even larger – Miri could give birth any time! The infant will be Miri and Sulango’s second and will provide only child Satu with a brand-new sibling surprise.
Robin the golden lion tamarin
Not only will Robin and Theo welcome their first offspring any day now, but the stork will also likely pay a double visit! Twins are extremely common in golden lion tamarins.
Shirley the warthog
Wee warthog alert 2010! Veteran mother Shirley has a third litter of piglets on the way, with a squealing special delivery scheduled to arrive at any time.
Kuchi and Kudzoo the western lowland gorillas
Great apes, Zoo Atlanta! Kuchi, already famous as the only gorilla in captivity ever to rear twins independently, is set to become a mother for the fourth time. Kudzoo, firstborn daughter of the legendary late Willie B., is expecting her second infant. The babies will be half-siblings – their father is silverback Taz – and could be just weeks or even days apart!
Glenda the giraffe
It’s no tall tale – we just don’t know when the Zoo’s largest baby plans on making an appearance! Glenda could deliver anytime between now and May. Her calf will be around 6 feet tall and will weigh between 100 and 150 pounds at birth.
Members and guests should stay tuned to zooatlanta.org for details and updates!
