Zoo Atlanta Hosting Farewell Celebration for Mei Lan
As the city’s biggest animal superstar prepares to leave her hometown Zoo, giant panda fans should expect nothing less than a celebrity sendoff when Zoo Atlanta hosts Mei Lan’s Farewell Celebration on Saturday, January 30, 2010. Weatherproof fans from around the world are expected to converge on the Atlanta Beauty’s birthplace tomorrow for special activities and a final glimpse of the 3-year-old panda.
Highlights will include farewell cards provided by FedEx (guests may sign well wishes and deposit cards in a FedEx drop box that will go on the plane with Mei Lan); performances by the Chin Hong School of Kung Fu’s Lion/Dragon Dance Team; festive refreshments (while supplies last); panda storybook readings; special panda keeper Q&A; and appearances by Zoo Atlanta panda mascot Zhu Zhu. Activities are rain or shine and will be available while supplies last.
During Mei Lan’s Farewell Celebration, Zoo Atlanta will also host an exclusive limited raffle opportunity: one extremely lucky winner and a guest will win the coveted experienceof witnessing Mei Lan’s final exit from outside the giant panda building on the morning of her departure. Raffle tickets are $25, and only 500 will be sold. Tickets will be sold from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. The Grand Prize Winner will be announced at 3 p.m. at Panda Veranda.
Mei Lan’s Farewell Celebration is free for Zoo Atlanta Members and children under 3; free with general admission.
