Voting Opens to Name the Giraffe Calf
Friday, August 6, 2010
Naming contest is online now on zooatlanta.org
A certain long-legged, doe-eyed baby will soon have a name, and the general public can now go onlineto vote for the picks that best describe her. Zoo Atlanta officials announced today that the naming contest for the new giraffe calf is now underway on zooatlanta.org, with two exciting prizes possible for voters.
Voters are encouraged to view and select from a final list of names submitted by Zoo Atlanta staff and Volunteers; the Zoo Atlanta Board of Directors; TG Madison and local media outlets. As a reflection of the calf’s habitat and her species’ native range, each of the names originates from Swahili, one of the languages of East Africa. As an added incentive for voting, each participant will be entered for a chance to win a Zoo Atlanta Family Membership and an exclusive behind-the-scenes animal encounter. Children must be accompanied by an adult, and the experience is subject to staffing and animal welfare issues. Behind-the-scenes tour prizes are limited to six participants (age 4 and up).
The winning name will be announced on Saturday, August 28 during a special naming celebration at Zoo Atlanta; stay tuned for event details.
Voting continues through Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at noon (EST).
