Wild gorilla populations continue to decline due to loss of habitat from land cultivation in western Africa, increased logging and illegal poaching. Home to the nation’s second-largest captive population of gorillas, and an active participant in the Gorilla SSP, Zoo Atlanta is well-respected for its work with various gorilla conservation partners, including the esteemed Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International headquartered on Zoo grounds.
