Sam Rivera, DVM
Associate Veterinarian

A native of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Sam moved to the U.S. in 1998. He served preceptorships at the St. Louis Zoo and Bronx Zoo before joining Zoo Atlanta as a part-time veterinarian in 1999; he has served as a full-time Associate Veterinarian since 2005. Sam’s interests in animal health also extend to cutting-edge research and critical conservation initiatives. Projects include ongoing health assessments for wild sea turtles, and in 2009, a prestigious invitation to participate in Project Pinta, an ambitious effort to restore giant tortoises to their native island in the Galapagos.

Sam has Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, a Master’s degree in Veterinary Pathology and a DVM from Kansas State University.
