Other Membership questions
Can I lend my card to a friend or family member?
Your Membership is nontransferable, allowing only those adults listed on the Membership cards and up to four children under the age 18 to be admitted free of charge. As we are a non-profit organization that relies on public funding to cover our operating expenses, and we try very hard to keep our Membership prices affordable for as many people in our community as possible, please encourage your friends & family to join so they can also enjoy the Membership benefits. If you would like the option of bringing a different guest with you each time you visit, you may Add-a-Guest for $20 per Membership year.
How do matching gifts work?
If your company participates in gift-matching, you can upgrade your Membership with their matching gift when you purchase or renew your Membership by following these steps.
- Request a matching gift pledge form from your company’s HR department.
- Submit the completed form to Zoo Atlanta with your Membership payment and application.
- *For online purchases, please include in the “Notes” field of your online application that you will be sending in a matching gift pledge, and then fax your completed form to us at 404.624.5900 within 48 hours of your payment.
- Once we process your completed pledge form, your Membership level will be upgraded to the corresponding Matching Gift Membership level. Please allow 30 days for processing.
I have a Family Membership; can my children visit the Zoo without me?
Yes, but please call the WILDLine Reservation Center at least 24 hours in advance to arrange their visit. The children will be placed on the guest list, allowing them admission with a copy of the parent Member card.
Who is ComNet Marketing in Medford, Oregon, and why are they calling me?
Our telemarketing company in Medford, Oregon may call during the month of your Membership expiration to offer a convenient way for you to renew your Membership over the phone. Your information remains secure, and your phone number is never shared with a third party or used for any other purpose than to renew your Membership. However, if you would prefer not to receive calls from this company, you may change your communications preferences.
Why have you requested my email address?
To conserve the Earth’s resources, we prefer to communicate with you via email. If you provide us your email address, you will receive Zoo updates and occasional reminders about upcoming events as well as special email-only offers. You may change your communications preferences.
Do you sell my info to third parties?
We only use your information to communicate Zoo Atlanta news and Membership matters. Your email and phone number will never be sold or given to outside parties. You may receive a phone call from ComNet Marketing in Medford, Oregon offering a convenient way to renew your Membership over the phone. These trusted partners are employed by Zoo Atlanta to offer this service, and your number will never be used otherwise. However, if you would prefer not to receive calls from this company, you may change your communications preferences.
How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the Zoo?
You may choose to become a Green Member or receive only some of your Zoo communications via email-only by telling us your preference. A valid phone number is required so we may contact you about your Membership in the event there is a problem with the email.
What is Green Membership?
Members can reduce the amount of mail they receive from Zoo Atlanta by providing a valid email address and asking to become a Green Member, after which you’ll receive most of our communications via email instead of by paper mail. If you already receive eUpdate, you’re already getting the same amount of email you’ll receive as a Green Member—you’ll just stop receiving the paper mail, thereby reducing paper waste, which is good for the environment in many ways, and it saves more of the Zoo’s resources to spend where it’s needed most: caring for animals here and in the wild.
You’ll still receive your Membership cards by mail, of course, and if your level of Membership includes a subscription to Wild Times, you’ll still receive a print copy until we are able to offer Wild Times for download online.
Opt in or out of Green Membership anytime by visiting our communication preferences page.
You have my email address, but I don’t receive emails. What’s wrong?
At some time, you may have checked a box stating you do not want to be contacted via email. You may request to change your contact preferences at any time or you may email membership@zooatlanta.org to inquire.
How can I get further involved with the Zoo?
Zoo Atlanta wouldn’t be the same without the support of our dedicated volunteers, docents, and sponsors who receive unique benefits in exchange for their assistance. Volunteers receive valuable training and opportunities aligned to their interests. You must be a Member to volunteer with the Zoo. See our volunteer page for details.
How much of my Membership is tax-deductible?
Your payment, less the fair market value of the benefits you receive, is deductible for income tax purposes. Under Internal Revenue Services (IRS) guidelines, the estimated value of the benefits of standard-level Memberships (Individual, Dual & Family) is not substantial; therefore the full amount of your payment is a deductible contribution. For upper-level Memberships (Family Escape, Serengeti, Patron, Keeper, Curator, and Conservation Society) which receive guest-passes, however, those passes are valued at $13.50 apiece, for IRS purposes, which reduces the tax deduction. For these Memberships, the tax-deductible amount is provided on your Membership card letter, or email membership@zooatlanta.org for details.
I forgot to ask for my discount when I purchased my Membership. May I get a refund for the discount?
Our discounts are provided at the time of purchase only, and most cannot be obtained online. Please contact the WILDLine for details on any discounted Memberships prior to your purchase.
I’m moving out of state. May I get a refund for my Membership?
Membership dollars directly support Zoo Atlanta’s operation and conservation work, and we are unable to refund Memberships. However, check with the local zoo in the area you move to for reciprocal zoo offers for the remainder of your Zoo Atlanta Membership.
