Create your very own Zoo in your garden using plants with animal names.  Zoo gardens can be small, as in a container garden, large, or any size in between.  Our list of plants for a Zoo garden includes plants that are low maintenance and easy to grow.  For questions about our Zoo garden, please contact Horticulture@zooatlanta.org.

Zoo Horticulture uses plant material to enhance the guest experience. Zoo guests are transported to exotic places to see amazing animals in a realistic habitat! Carefully chosen plants provide the experience of a tropical rainforest, African plain, or Asian forest.

  • Saucer Magnolias, Okame Cherries, Daffodils, Flowering Apricot, Camellias
  • Native Wildflowers in the Backyard Habitat
  • Butterfly Garden

Summer Highlights

  • Butterfly Garden
  • Seasonal color areas (Raised planters in KIDZone, Hanging Baskets around the zoo, tropical plants in Ford African Rainforest)
  • Ornamental Grasses in the African Plains

Fall Highlights

  • Fall foliage color (Black Gum, Red Maple, Yellowwood, Sugar Maples)
